Christ-liked Speech: Words that Reflect a Transformed Heart
In this message, Mr. Dave Baum teaches from James 3:1 to 12, and examines the power of the tongue and the influence of our words. James compares the tongue to a bit that guides a horse, a rudder that directs a large ship, and a spark that can start a forest fire. These examples highlight how speech can shape relationships, influence others, and direct the course of life.
There is a connection between words and the heart. Jesus taught that the mouth speaks from what fills the heart. Because of this, speech reveals the condition of a person’s inner life. Harsh language, gossip, and speech that wounds others often point to deeper issues within the heart rather than simply poor communication. However, there is hope through the work of Christ. Christ transforms hearts, and when the heart changes, speech begins to change as well. As believers grow in faith, their words begin to reflect encouragement, truth, and grace.
Mr. Baum calls listeners to practice discipline in speech. Pause before speaking. Replace criticism with encouragement. Refuse to participate in gossip. These actions reflect spiritual growth and a desire to honor God while building up others.
